- Atterbury Jobs Corps Raises Over $900 for Stuff the Bus

During a three week period, students at Atterbury Job Corps donated over $400 to the Stuff the Bus school supplies assistance cause.  At the completion of the campaign, the Atterbury Job Corps Student Government Association voted to match the funds collected and present the money to United Way.   On June 9, Job Corps members presented a check for $910 to Doug Otto, President of United Way, for the purchase of school supplies.  Their donation helped the Stuff the Bus Campaign exceed its goal, raising over $18,000 for school supply assistance.

This activity and other services projects are headed up by their instructor, Cailey Jones.  During Job Corps members fourth week of training, participants look for community service activities.  Ms. Jones’ team has done everything from painting the inside of the Columbus Child Care Center, to helping with the set up and clean up of the Get On Board Expo.  “Their value and productivity as volunteers is enormous, “ said Angie Huebel, United Way of Bartholomew County Volunteer Action Center Director.

Ms. Jones’ team volunteers one day a week in Columbus for different Not For Profit Agencies such as Parks and Recreation., Foundation For Youth and United Way.  “The Volunteer Action Center has been a great resource to us by providing volunteer opportunities that fit us well,” said Cailey Jones.

In addition, the Atterbury Job Corps team has committed themselves to packing and distribution of the back packs in June and July.
